Interim Pastor

Rev. Brian Shirey

My name is Brian F. Shirey.  I look forward to getting to know folks at St. Luke's and sharing some time with you as you seek out your next called pastor.  Let me share with you a little bit about me.  I was born on April 23, 1953 in Latrobe, Pa. and was baptized that same year in an Evangelical United Brethren Congregation.  (Today the E.U.B. is part of the United Methodist Church).  I grew up and graduated high school in Ligonier, Pa.  I then attended Thiel College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg.  I retired this past July after 40 years as an ordained pastor in the  Lutheran Church in America, The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the North American Lutheran Church.  I served four parishes before my retirement: (1) Mayport Lutheran Parish, a two-point parish about halfway between New Bethlehem and Brookville, Pa., (2) Holy Cross Lutheran Church, a mission congregation in Putnam County, West Virginia., (3) First Lutheran Church in Ridgway, Pa., and (4) Brighton Heights Lutheran Church on the north side of Pittsburgh, Pa.  (I was the pastor of BHLC for almost 24 years.)  My wife, Deb, and I have been married for 45 years.  Deb is a cancer survivor and, although cancer free, she is somewhat limited by health restraints.  We are the parents of two sons and have two wonderful daughters-in -law.  We are the grandparents of six grandchildren ranging in age from 8 years to 3 months.  My wife and I continue to live in the Brighton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh.  We are blessed by the fact that our children and grandchildren all live in the Greater Pittsburgh area.
